William Pye Water Scupture

Sibirica

A central stem or trunk rises from the pond to spread out at the top into four spouts. These deliver columns of smooth water into four vessels set beneath the spouts just above the water level of the pond. The water falling into these vessels is transformed from an integrated state of smoothness and calm into a spray of dancing droplets. At night time, four submersible lamps located within the top of the sculpture allow light to travel downwards through the streams of water, illuminating the rising droplets, making them appear to be floodlit. This sculpture is made of green patinated bronze. It was commissioned for the Iris Garden by the Friends of Holland Park through the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and was unveiled by Sir Peter Parker on 22nd September 1999.
