William Pye Water Scupture

Mirage (Danae's Abode)

Mirage was exhibited outside Cardiff Castle in 1972 as part of the City Sculpture Project. Having been slightly modified and renamed Danae's Abode, it was in the solo Pye exhibition at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in 1979, and then at the South Hill Park Arts Centre near Bracknell (Berkshire). The subsequent owner located it in his property in the Ardeche in France on a mountain side.

The name Danae's Abode refers to Greek Mythology where the shaft of sunlight passes through a window onto the sleeping Danae.

The City Sculpture Project was revisited in 2016 by the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds in an exhibition of various artists involved in 1972. More information
